1.9. Position Objective
Develop, maintain and optimize the technical tools related to Ecotierra’s carbon projects.
The person will provide technical support to internal teams and contribute to the verification, implementation and development processes of new carbon projects. They will also take part in the execution of forestry mandates and field inventories.
The position requires specialized knowledge in geomatics, geographic information systems, GIS, programming, data analysis and the integration of artificial intelligence. This expertise will support the development of innovative and effective solutions aligned with the organization’s sustainability objectives.
1.10. Job Responsibilities
A. Development and maintenance of technical tools for carbon projects
Develop, maintain and optimize the technical tools used in Ecotierra’s carbon projects.
Update the Standard Operating Procedure, SOP, the Project Development Document, PDD, databases, Excel files and other technical documents.
Act as liaison with Verra and the auditors of the Pivot project, in coordination with the NBS team.
Prepare and coordinate carbon verification processes and provide ongoing technical support to the NBS team.
B. Geomatics, GIS and technological innovation
Contribute to the development and deployment of geomatics within Ecotierra’s carbon projects.
Continue integrating satellite imagery and artificial intelligence into forest biomass inventories.
Assess the potential uses of these tools within Ecotierra’s projects.
Update and improve GIS, analysis, forest inventory and programming tools.
Develop the integration of artificial intelligence into internal processes.
C. Carbon analysis and technical documentation
Contribute to analyses, eligibility reports and baseline adjustments for the Pivot project, as well as to the update of recruitment, training, analysis and forest inventory tools.
Participate in the drafting and improvement of technical documents related to carbon projects.
D. Development of new carbon projects
Contribute to the development of a new carbon credit project in Quebec or elsewhere in Canada.
Participate in the development of methodologies, preliminary analyses and technical frameworks.
E. Forest inventories and forestry mandates
Contribute to the completion of forest inventories, including inclusion, verification and quality control.
Participate in the execution of various forestry mandates.
2. Requirements
2.1. Academic Background
Completed university degree, or degree in progress, in geomatics, forestry, biology, environmental sciences or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
Preferred specialization in geographic information systems, GIS, carbon markets, forest inventories, data science or applied programming, among others.
2.2. Required Experience
Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in a technical, analytical or environmental or forestry data management role, or in similar functions.
Experience with forest carbon standards is an asset.
2.3. Technical Knowledge
Excellent command of written English.
Advanced proficiency in Excel and databases.
Excellent knowledge of GIS and geomatics.
Knowledge of SQL and Python is an asset.
Knowledge of carbon certification processes is an asset.
Ability to clearly explain technical concepts to various internal audiences.
2.4. Specific Skills
Rigour, autonomy and strong organizational skills.
Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
Strong interest in technological innovation and climate solutions, with an analytical mindset and great attention to detail.
Knowledge of Spanish is an asset.
